# Introducing the Read & Run role

Published Dec 11, 2025

## A new role for running tests without write access

Read & Run is a new team member role for anyone who needs to execute tests or trigger checks without being able to deploy or modify configuration. Users with the role can view all resources and manually invoke checks and tests via `npx checkly test`, `trigger`, or `pw-test` in the CLI, via the API, or ad hoc in the UI. They cannot deploy changes or modify checks, environment variables, or any other configuration.

## Built for incident response and CI/CD

The role sits between Read and Read & Write. It enables safe troubleshooting during incident response, where engineers need to re-run a check to validate a fix without risking accidental configuration changes. Assigned to a service user, it also fits CI/CD pipelines that should run tests but not deploy or modify resources.
