We probe the thing that matters.

Most “is it down” sites either count complaints or ping a marketing homepage. Neither tells you whether the service works.

So we don’t check npmjs.com. We check the registry your installs resolve against. We don’t check stripe.com. We check Stripe’s API healthcheck. Every probe URL is published on its page, so you can check our work.

Measured, not reported

Downdetector counts people complaining. That lags the outage and spikes when a service is merely unpopular. We run a synthetic check and report the response.

Checked around the clock

Every 10 minutes, from N. Virginia and Frankfurt, we send a real request and record exactly what came back — status, response time, and the full timing breakdown.
